Pie.  I have pie, baking in my oven-2 pumpkin pies to be specific.  I come from a pie-baking family so it only comes naturally I suppose-the knack for pie.  It is also after 10pm.  Another thing about my family:  we do things out of love, no matter what time of night it is.  I am a morning person as is my mom.  However, I remember on many, many occasions, my mother still cooking/baking after I had gone to bed. Not for herself for I have rarely seen her eat her own pies.  No, she bakes for others. For Thanksgiving, she bakes…PIES! For my sister’s brother in law (who is not my husband but is my brother-in-law’s brother-in-law…wow, not only do I not do math at night, I have a hard time figuring out my family’s relationships…), my mom will make pecan pies.  Sure, she takes pies for all of us to eat for Thanksgiving but she makes extra to send home with people.  Jorge loves pecan pies and my mom loves her family so…she will be up late making pies before Thanksgiving.  Even if she worked the entire day as a full-time nurse. She will work into the night making pies and then be up early the next morning to cook the turkey.  Who does that?!  While her daughter, who was cursed with needing at least 8-10 hours of sleep per night, sleeps in…(wow, I am feeling a little convicted…)

I remember when I was around 13 years old and my mom promised pies to The Way Station (a day-mission my dad volunteered at) for Thanksgiving. Well, she promised 20 or so pies.  One person, working full-time, can not make that many pies.  But her lovely, beautiful, forced into slave labor, children can.  So, my sister and I made a billion pies for the homeless that holiday.

I don’t really remember it honestly…I probably just peeled apples the entire time while watching “McGee and Me” and my sister did everything else…Ah, the traumas of my childhood…Blocked out completely in my memory…

The timer currently has 21:47 left…Tonight I am baking 2 pies because a friend of mine is having an auction tomorrow night to raise money for a mission trip to Cambodia. I found out that anything that can be auctioned off is welcomed…so, I started thinking of what I have…books, nursing advice, cleaning labor, dinner parties…But decided on using the pumpkin pie ingredients in my cupboard (I decided pumpkin pie was the safe route because some stranger out there might bid on “nursing advice” because he has a rash…and rashes are never a good way to get to know a person)

11:08 minutes left.  I am really tired. So, this is the end of my post on Pie.  I’m going to bed…oh, wait, my pie isn’t done yet…
