There are many words used to describe Christians.  Some nice, some not-so-nice.

Jesus-Followers, hypocrites, disciples, insane, crazy, happy, generous, apostles, prophets, believers, goody-two-shoes, righteous, self-righteous, chosen, called, anointed, children of God, heirs to the Throne, citizens of Heaven, etc.

I want to focus on one adjective/noun. Believers.

We are believers.  Now, the Bible says that the devil and the demons are believers in Jesus too.  Oh, they believe-and tremble.  They know who Jesus is very well.  And I would venture to say that the majority of people in the U.S. believe there is a God and that Jesus once walked the earth.

So, why are followers of Jesus called Believers and everyone else is not?  Because of what we really believe and who we put our trust in.  The devil believes but he isn’t trusting, submitting, surrendering to Jesus.

We are believers because we believe.  We believe that the impossible can happen.  We believe in the God who heals, the God who parts the Red Sea, the God who closes lions’ mouths, the God who saved Jonah, the God who raises the dead, heals the sick, who can feed 10,000 people with 2 loaves of bread and a few fish, the God who talked with Moses, Noah, Joseph, David, Samson, Joshua, Solomon, Daniel, Paul, Elijah, Elisha, Ruth, Deborah, Esther, Mary, Elizabeth, Aquila and Priscilla, Timothy, Silas, Barnabas, John, Peter, James, etc.

YOU BET WE BELIEVE! It’s who we are! It’s what we do!

When others give up, we believe that God will give us the strength to keep going.

When others run away, we believe God will fight for us.

When others say “there’s no way”, we believe there is a way.

When others are depressed, negative, hopeless, angry, bitter, WE BELIEVE! We are believers for Heaven’s sake-so you better believe that we are believing! We believe in the God who can turn any situation around, who can bring back what was lost, who can make something out of nothing, who blesses, who favors, who wins!  We believe in the God who gives generously to those who are holding out for what He promised!  We believe that this isn’t the time to give up! This is the time to hang on!

Call us crazy, call us insane, call us anything you want-but in that description-You better call us Believers!

We don’t pray to Buddha, Mohammad, Abraham, Mary, Joseph Smith, Satan, Mother Earth, Father Time, the stars, the moon.  We pray to the One we believe in, the One who was and is and always will be- the Ancient of Days, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.  We pray to Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit-One and Three.  Don’t ask me how it works exactly cuz I never was that good in math.  All I know is that 1=3.  And I still believe.  I don’t have all the answers but I still believe.

Not everything goes right for me, but I still believe.

Not everyone in my family is healed, but I still believe.

I’m not always happy, but I still believe.

I’m not always motivated, inspired or encouraged, but I still believe.

I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, the brightest bulb on the tree, but I still believe.

I’m not perfect, not completed, not sinless-but I still believe.

WE BELIEVE!  When everything is right and when everything is wrong-WE WILL BELIEVE!  When someone dies of cancer, we still believe in healing.  When someone declares bankrupcy, we still believe in the God who provides wisdom, finances, and help.  When someone is wanted by the police, we believe!  When your body is breaking down, we believe! When you hate your job, your life, your car, your bank account, your family-we believe!

This isn’t the end-this is the beginning!  Your best days are ahead of you! God isn’t done! He has a plan and he is working his plan.  What has happened, happened with God knowing about it.

And so we trust Him.  When others don’t, we do.

Because we are believers.
